Equestrian Excellence

With the lessons and the preparation behind them, over two dozen of Pok-O-MacCready’s horseback riders took part in competition Sunday morning at the Camp MacCready Horse Show.  Not only did campers compete, but riders from other farms in Essex and Clinton Counties were on hand.

Things got rolling in the barn ring with the walk-trot equitation class.  While several campers won classes, and all earned ribbons, Zoe came away the division champion.  “I don’t know, I had a good horse,” she said of her success. “I’ve only ridden a few times this year; Hopefully, if I get to ride more, I can move up a class.”

In the other walk-trot division, Katie B edged out Jerry for champion in a close duel.  “I was really hoping to win the division. Boone is just the sweetest horse ever, and Jerry and I had a good little competition going.”

Added Jerry, the runner-up:  “I had fun! Riding horses is awesome, and I felt pretty cool.”

Lucia took top prize in the walk-trot-canter division.  “It was a lot of work doing four classes, but it was fun. I lost a stirrup during the canter but I was focused and was able to recover.”

As for the jumpers, several MacCready campers (Sierra, Sarah S, Sophie P) impressed the spectators at the hunter course, while Tess, riding in her final MacCready show, won the cross rails division.  “It was great to win in my last ever show as a camper. The best part of riding at camp is that it’s stress-free.”

The next major show – The 51st Big MacCready – is scheduled for session #2, on August 6.
