Happy Campers Return!

Sunday marked the start of the 113th summer season at Pok-O-MacCready.  By plane and bus, car and van, campers arrived from places near and far: Plattsburgh to Miami; San Francisco and Los Angeles; Israel and Hong Kong.

For many kids, this was the first day, not just at Pok-O-MacCready, but at any overnight camp.  “I’ve never been away from my family and I thought it would be a good experience,” said Gamunu  “It’s Pretty good so far.  I like being in the outdoors.”

Ella:  “I really like the camp.  It’s fun and there are a lot of nice people.:

Robert, is only seven, and another first-time camper:  “It’s good.  The best part so far has been having fun.”

Of course, the bulk of the campers are returnees, none more tenured than 16-year old Jaida, beginning her tenth summer at Pok-O.   “First day of camp is always exciting, and it’s nice to meet new people, and have interesting conversations.”

Aside from getting acquainted, campers took part in nurse checks, cabin setup, and swim tests for some.  During the evening everyone gathered for an all-camp assembly, to meet the staff and learn – via entertaining skits – about some of camp’s schedule, programs, and basic policies, rules, and traditions.

Here are a few pics.  Many more can be found at our online photo gallery.
