The Annual Sheep Roundup

sheep exitToday we got a chance to take a break from answering phone calls and emails in the office to relocate our sheep for the winter.  We move our two sheep, André and Lady Baba, from the Homestead down to the Sugar Cube Barn, where we install a heater to keep them warm through the colder months.

Traditionally this move, appropriately nicknamed “the sheep wrangling”, is not always the smoothest event.  If you have ever attempted to coax two fully grown sheep on to a horse trailer you may know the struggle. This move usually involves quite a few people and at least one bucket of grain.

shee back upThis year was the fastest sheep move, as far as any of us can remember, that there has been to date. In total it took five of us approximately one hour to get together, hookup the trailer, roundup the sheep, and transport them to their new home! It all went surprisingly smoothly. The little trouble we had convincing Lady Baba was solved by distracting her with quite a lot of grain and a quick lift onto the trailer.
