Pok-O-MacCready is the Longest Running Boys Camp in America

Adirondack summer camps have been a tradition for many children and families for more than a century. Abundant in natural beauty, the Adirondacks provide campers with access to 6 million acres of woodland, rocks, rivers, lakes and mountains to explore. It’s no wonder that some of America’s oldest summer camps reside here in the Adirondacks.

Adirondack Summer Camp Established in 1905

Adirondack Summer Camp - summer camp at Pok-O-MacCreadyPrivately owned and operated by the same family since 1905, Pok-O-MacCready is actually the longest running boys camp in America. Established by Charles Alexander Robinson, it was originally an all-boys camp in the Adirondacks, named Pok-O-Moonshine for a local mountain that overlooks the property.  In 1967 our current director, Jack Swan, saw the need for an Adirondack summer camp for girls in New York and opened Camp MacCready, just a five minute walk up the hill from the boys camp. The names were combined to form the unusual “Pok-O-MacCready” moniker, and today, we operate as a co-ed Adirondack summer camp for children ages six to sixteen.

Why choose Pok-O-MacCready Camps?

Well, we HAVE been doing this for more than one hundred years! Needless to say, as the longest running boys camp in America, we have a lot of experience. We’ve figured out what works, and what doesn’t. After over a century in the Adirondack summer camp business, we’ve got our logistics down to a science, we’ve fine-tuned our classes and traditional activity offerings while still remaining progressive enough to make room for new programs, and we continue to improve and expand our facilities so that we can offer our campers even more opportunities.

Over the years, we have built such a solid group of experienced staff who truly understand our philosophy – because most of them have lived it as a camper!  A large portion of our counselors and staff were once campers or parents of campers, so they really know what it’s like to see camp through a child’s eyes.

We understand that parents really have to shop around to find a camp that is a perfect fit for their child. Summer Camp is definitely not a one-size-fits all sort of operation, and finding the right one can be a quite a process.
