“It was a very big surprise; I’ve never been honor camper before and I’m just really happy that my peers thought so highly of me. It was a great night!”
James’s remarks about winning Pok-O-MacCready’s biggest prize appropriately captured the mood and spirit of the boy’s session #2 banquet, which was held Thursday evening in Robinson Hall.
Following a dinner ably cooked by the kitchen staff, and served by the CIT’s, the awards commenced.
And it was an historic ceremony, with Henri being the first ever boy to capture the highest equestrian award— the Unicorn plaque for riding excellence.
Among the other highlights were the presentation of trip points, with Liam receiving the most for the summer- having spent over two and a half weeks exclusively on wilderness trips. Also, years of service: Jackson K and Sean T each earned traditional Adirondack pack baskets for their eight summers at camp.
Finally, there was the evening’s most prestigious citations:
SECTION | POK-O “P” | HONOR CAMPER |
PIONEER | Emmet, Rowan | Kiran |
INTERMEDIATE | Caden | Wyatt D |
SENIOR | Connor, Romir | James |
ADVANCED SECTION | June | Leonard |
“I honestly thought that I hadn’t won,” said Wyatt, the Intermediate Honor Camper. “So when they said ‘Wyatt, you’re honor camper’ I was surprised because I didn’t think I was going to win. The best part about winning it is just knowing that you were voted on by the other campers.”
Kiran, the Pioneer selection added that “I would say I was shocked when I found out I was an honor camper, and I was also very happy. I couldn’t really believe it!”
The girls of Camp MacCready held their awards night on Wednesday; Friday’s final evening of the camp season will be reserved for an all-camp dance and slide show.
