Thanks to consistent showings throughout Greek Games, Athens was named the 2016 City State champion during a Tuesday evening ceremony at Delphi.

The announcement was made, via a candle burning ritual, performed by The Oracle.

“It was amazing, mostly because it was my first year here,” said Caden.  “When we won, I felt 16_oracle201proud for both myself and my teammates.  I felt a little bad for the other teams, but I knew that we had worked hard for it.”

As for the other teams, no one was closer than Troy, who finished just one-half point behind the victors (see final results HERE).  Despite the closeness of the standings, the Trojans took things in stride.  “I really didn’t think we were going to win after the last game, but it was no big deal; I’m OK with second place,” said Wyatt D, with Kendall adding that “It doesn’t matter that we didn’t win because we still had fun.”

The victory was an historic one for Athens in that they took the title without winning a single individual event.  Furthermore, they become the first City State in the history of Greek Games to win four titles.
