16_Macshow17The summer’s first competitive horse show featured 23 Pok-O-MacCready boys and girls, along with guest equestrians from the outside world.

“I was so proud of everyone,” said long-time camp riding director Sue Bagli.  “Especially those kids that rode in their first show ever.  Kylor and Christian just learned to trot the other day, and Zoe gets the perseverance award for her work with her horse.”

Riders took part in classes ranging from Leadline, to jumping.  Ribbons were presented in every class; for Tori, it was a first-time ever blue ribbon for first place.  “I thought it was a good show, but I did have to calm my horse down, because his heart was beating fast. I was surprised I won because I had never won a blue ribbon before.”

Four MacCready campers took Champion honors.  “I’ve been getting better by riding more at camp, and a little bit at home,” said Katie B, of her first championship. About her horse, Eclipse, Katie added “At first she was a little scared and we kind of got through that together.16_Macshow04 After that, she was amazing!”

Another champion, Annie C, was quick to praise her teammate:  “Well, I rode during the year (at home) on a tough horse, which helped make me get better. Luna did really good here.”

Rider-of-theDay honors went to Sophie P, who captured both Champion and reserve champion ribbons on the jump course.  “I was really surprised today because there were some really good competitors, like Sierra and girls from the other camp.”

In fact, according to Sophie, having the riders from another  program is what made it a great horse show.  “It was more competitive having outsiders here, but they were really nice and we all encouraged each other”

Pok-O riders will next compete July 31, with a road show in Cliftonville, NY.  Gallery below, with many more pics on our ONLINE PHOTO SITE.  (See Sunday’s full show roster HERE)
