The 112th annual Great Tribal Boat Carnival was held Sunday on cool, drizzly, though thankfully not choppy Long Pond. The competition featured these 11 unique and fun events:
- Kayak 100-yard dash
- Rowboat paddle with hands
- Canoe Bob
- Pio Rowboat Paddle
- Playak Jump out & in
- Tribal cheer
- Sink the Bismarck
- Surfboard paddle
- Canoe to Bird’s Rock
In addition, there was a fishing derby won by Jerry J, who caught the winning fish using a line and his hand only, no fishing rod.
“It was a ton of fun,” said Sasha of the Cayuga, who finished third. “I was in the rowboat paddle with hands, and Sink the Bismarck, so my hands are a little tired!”
The Onondaga won their first event of the season by capturing four of the last five events. “It was unusual,” said Niccolo of the winning team, in reference to his event, the Canoe Bob. “But I think our team is doing well.”
In fact, a check at the season results proves his point. Four different tribes have won the first four events, and the overall points standing are very close, as the games now take a break until after visiting day weekend.
