Standing at one of Pok-O-MacCready’s highest elevations is its loftiest building: The Crux. The year-round rock climbing center has now been in operation for a decade and remains one of camp’s most popular spots.
“We have from four to eight campers for each of the ten periods,” said summer climbing coordinator Chantal Gilliland. “There’s a wide range of skill levels, but also a wide range of climbs to test them.”
Cara has been rock climbing at Pok-O for seven summers, and she is also an avid climber at home. “It’s smaller than some of the places,” Cara says of the Crux, “but it still has a lot of climbing. There are many different routes, and it’s still challenging with some hard climbs.”
“So many different things to do: Bouldering, slack line; walls,” added Abe.
