Diamond Sweep

In what some are calling a rare occurrence, Pok-O-Moonshine’s baseball teams swept a pair of games against Camp Lincoln Tuesday afternoon.

16LincBase104AT LINCOLN:  Pok-O jumped out to an early lead and then held off a late Lincoln comeback attempt to win 5-2, in a game featuring the Intermediate campers, aged 12 and younger.

“Nothing really stood out,” said Jack C, when asked about the keys to victory.  “It was just fun and aggressive.”

“It was really fun,” said Charlie S, one of the game’s stars.  I just liked playing with friends.  There’s less talent (vs. Little League); it’s more to have fun.”

AT POK-O:  The home team jumped out to a 7-0 first inning lead and had no problem rolling to a 15-8 win in the older boy’s game.  The game featured both kids from Senior section, and Advanced Section.  “It was fun playing with the ADV,” said Reed.

Adam D led things off with a long ground rule double, and also got the complete game pitching victory.  “I wasn’t even on the team at first, but some of the kids – including the pitcher – were16LincBase101 sick, so I joined at the last minute.”

The Pok-O victory was especially sweet, given the number of inexperienced players on the team.  Papouto, from Haiti, had never even seen a baseball game.  “I’m still not sure what I’m doing but it seems fun.”  Meantime, John L had played a few times before, and despite looking uncomfortable at the plate (with a wooden bat), John laced a two-run single in the first inning.  “It may have been that I got a bit lucky!”

Game #2 of the home-and-home series is scheduled for Thursday. Plenty of pics in the gallery below, and  SEE TEAM PHOTOS HERE
