Survival Series is a big hit!

survival 2PMOEC has officially kicked off its winter workshop series!  Last Saturday, Zack and Alex from PMOEC presented the “Out Cold” Winter Survival Workshop in partnership with Champlain Area Trails (CATS).  The group headed to the Blueberry Hills for an introduction to trail safety and comfort in the Adirondack outdoors!

The morning session was open to families and explored basic safety skills such as:  packing the right gear gear (layering, materials, etc.), hydration dos and don’ts, when/what to eat, how to deal with hot spots like blisters, some myths vs facts, and other novice back country health and safety tips.

The afternoon session for adults delved deeper into the survival aspects. The hike covered more advanced gear, worked on fire building, built a “Leave No Trace” shelter, explored some survival scenarios & simulations, and discussed what to do when a day trip becomes an unplanned overnight in the Adirondacks.

survival 4“Many thanks for an awesome workshop yesterday. I really appreciated how focused and structured the event was. I was thrilled that the program reached beyond the typical Champlain Area Trails enthusiasts to 2 new families—and one that drove from 2.5 hrs away to attend!”  -Catherine Ross

Be sure to sign up for our next workshop!
