BIG GAME FRIDAY: The 111th Annual Blue & Grey Game

DSC_0726 Barricades, flanks, flourhawks, stronghold, Confederacy, Union:  these words comprise the bulk of the vocabulary of yesterday’s Blue & Grey game, a camp-ified reenactment of the battles of the Civil War.  The campers broke out into two teams:  Blue (representing the Union) and Grey (representing the Confederacy).

“The game was really well thought out, and the “cities” and other components of the game were pretty realistic.” said Jared.

Nika, a new camper this summer, enjoyed her introduction to this energetic camp tradition.  “I was on the Grey team…my favorite part about it was capturing all the cities.”

“It was REALLY fun!,” said Kaman – another new camper, “…people were running around everywhere and I really liked the idea of flourhawks.” (socks filled with flour, to be used as “ammunition”)

“I always enjoy the Blue & Grey game…it’s a nice afternoon activity.” said Clare B.

THE RESULT?  History was perhaps re-written this year, as the Confederates took the win in the game…by a margin of roughly 50,000 points.
