Sectioning Off

Sometimes lost in the glamour and popularity of Pok-O-MacCready’s big games and class choices, are the section activities.

15_3wksectionacts10Section activities take place almost every afternoon for the boys, and selected evenings for both boys and girls.  They are enjoyed for both the diversity and creativity of the activity itself, along with the opportunity for campers to spend some quality time with their age group contemporaries.

The list of section activities is endless, yet the one activity that every section takes part in each summer at camp is called Tie Dying:  an informal term for coloring shirts.  “It’s a low key activity,” states boy’s camp headmaster Josh Bornt, who runs the activity.  “Plus, you get a t-shirt and our designs are cool.”

The way it works, according to Noah M, is that “Josh soaks the shirt.  Then, we put in the color. You can make your own pattern.  You kind of know what you want it to look like, but sometimes15_3wksectionacts07 it gets out of your control.  Then, you get back the shirt in a day or two.”

George and Brennan put together this admittedly bad haiku to describe tie dyeing:

Tie Dying was fun
Tie dying is always fun
We made a cool shirt

Here’s a gallery of camper tie dye work, as well as several other section activities.  You can also access our ONLINE PHOTO GALLERY for dozens of additional fully sized section activity pics.
