Busy Sports Weekend

15SportsFriday05Even with visiting day sandwiched in between on Saturday, it is still a busy time for sports competition for Pok-O-MacCready’s campers.

The Pok-O Plex® was the site of the summer’s first basketball game, a MacCready game vs. Camp Whipporwill.  “It was fun,” Jaida said of the15SportsFriday04 30-24 loss, “and I think we did well since we only had about a half hour practice as a team.”

Coach Claire Dee praised her squad saying “we did well, especially considering we were made up of girls both young and old.  They passed really well!”

Tamlin called the game “really fun but also really hard because Whipporwill was so good.  We were good too, but it was definitely a challenge.”

For some players, such as Mahalo, this was a first time experience.  “I had never played against another team before, but it was really fun and I made my brother proud of me, because he plays a lot.”

Also Friday afternoon, the boys younger and older teams played a pair of soccer rematches, again coming up short in both contests.  The older boys, decked out in tie dye (above, left) lost to camp Lincoln 7-5; Pok-O’s goals came from Papouto, June, Damien and two from Santiago.

The younger boys were involved in a cliffhanger, as Lincoln tied the game up in the final seconds, then won in overtime to record a 6-5 win.  Nikolai led the way with a hat trick for Pok-O, while Miles and Max also tallied.

Sunday, equestrian competition resumes with the MacCready horse show; next week will see inter-camp competition in boys basketball and ultimate frisbee.
