In what was one of the most dominating performances in tournament history, The Gold Diggers swept through the round robin and playoffs to capture the 2015 Pok-O Closed Volleyball Championship.
“We were pretty confident going in,” said Ethan of his team comprised of camp’s four oldest boys, and two girls players who play regularly at home. “We had some pretty advanced players. I’m happy how the team did despite the fact that there were no close games.\,” Ethan added of his team’s 25-8, 25-6 victory over Tie Dye or Die in the final series.
The victory made Spencer one of the few players in camp history to win consecutive titles. Last year was a much tighter struggle to the championship, compared to this year’s cakewalk, but “it’s fun either way because I got to know a whole new group of people.” Additionally, Spencer complimented his opponents in the final. “It was fun to play a much younger team. They worked really hard.”
In the end, winning player Gabriella voiced what the entire closed is all about. “We were happy to win but, mostly, we had a lot of fun and laughed a lot.”
