Young and Old Playing Together

15MacSocc05Following Tuesday’s inter-camp season openers in baseball, the girl’s competitive sports schedule opened wednesday afternoon with a soccer game vs. Camp Whipporwill.

For the second year in a row, the two camps opted not to split into separate older and younger teams, instead going with one large all age squad. “I was nervous at first because I didn’t know a lot of the other (older) girls,” said 11-year old Phoebe, “but once we started playing, I just did what I normally do and it wasn’t as bad I thought!”

The visiting team from Whipporwill defeated MacCready 4-3.  Elizabeth and Ashley had goals15MacSocc02 for the home team, while Maddle L added an assist, along with an impressive goal, shot from around 35 feet.  “”It curved in from way out; I’m not sure how I did it!”

Equally as impressive was the goalkeeping of C.I.T. player Emma R, who not only had never before played goal, but had to be talked into playing the game at all.  “In the beginning, I was trying to get out of it, but I figured as goalie I wouldn’t have to run much.  Once I got into it, it was fun and I realized it’s cool to try something new.”

Inter-camp sports continues Friday with a pair of baseball rematches.
