111th Annual Great Indian Track Meet

The opening competition for the 2015 Indian Games featured the usual assortment of high energy, creative events, as seen in this gallery:

“My favorite was the Saltine cracker one,” said Cole, ” but it was all a lot of fun because we all got to take part in every event.”15trackmeet23

Cole’s Mohawk tribe, undermanned while also trying to snap a 12-year Indian Games winless streak, got off to a great start Thursday afternoon by capturing The Great Indian Track Meet.

“I thought that our tribe had a superb amount of spirit,” added Niall,  “which gave us a lot of motivation to do well.  Our best event was the Leap Frog, which got us off to a good start.”

The event was held on the MacCready ball field, in perfect weather conditions.  Aside from the athletic endeavors, each tribe was required to perform a cheer.  “I actually thought we would do worse because we got a lot of fourths and fifths. We must have done well on the cheer,” remarked Wyatt, of the Cayuga tribe that finished third overall.

Indian events continue Friday afternoon with MacCready’s first competition:  The Great Indian Swim & Boat Carnival.  (See results and full tribal rosters HERE)
