Visiting Day on Opening Day

For families that chose to drive to Pok-O-MacCready to drop off campers, opening day gave them not only the opportunity to personally deliver their children, but to tour camp, see theCar_arrival10 cabins and visit with some old friends.

“I love it,” said Ken “Squeaky” Herz (above, left), who has been on staff since 1977, “because so many of the parents are people that I worked with at camp in years past.”

“Always great to come back,” marked Rebecca Larson, a former camper and counselor whose son Elrick is in the Advanced Section.  For Elrick, 16, his return to Pok-O this year is bittersweet.  “Yeah, it’s sad that it’s my last year as a camper, but I’m going to make the most out of it and will hopefully come back as a counselor.”

Not long after arriving at camp, parents were on their way home, while kids were getting involved in meals and activities.  Jaida, a veteran MacCready camper,  put things very simply in discussing her return to camp:  “I’m just super excited to see my friends, and everything!”
