Pok-O-MacCready Alumnus Jacob Gittler, a long-time camper, counselor and section head, completed his winter Adirondack Forty-Sixers Saturday, March 21, on the summit of Big Slide.
Gittler’s finishing day, on the last qualifying day of the season, was a mad dash that included an early morning ascent of three mountains in the Dix Range, along with the climb up Big Slide.
“Yesterday’s trip to three of the Dixes and then Big Slide was quite the day, and I’d be crazy to not thank Jim Kobak, who hiked more than half of the winter peaks with me, and was also more than psyched to go EXTREME Peakbagging on the closing day of winter! Also, an enormous thank you to Patricia Hurlburt, who was a wonderful host to us yesterday. Patty made us an incredible lunch at her house so that we could re-carbo-load and split our day up nicely, and then had pizza for us when we finished Big Slide! It was an operation through and through…And then of course thanks to everyone who joined me in some capacity out in the mountains over the winters. You all really made it something special for me.”
Gittler joins Kobak, and eight other camp alumni* who have completed the challenging quest of climbing all 46 in winter. (* Sharp Swan, Phil Corell, Ken Ryba, Jim Kobak, Mark Corell, Dan Herbert, Matt Elliott, Eric Bauer, Jason Fiegl, Jacob Gittler).
