22 Scholarships Awarded for 2015 Summer

Off the heels of the most successful year of fund raising ever, the Adirondack Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce that 22 children have been awarded financAdirondack Scholarship Foundationial aid for the 2015 camp season.

The foundation’s board award sub-committee made the selections in late February, following a lengthy application process.  “There was a lot of aid being requested this year,” said committee member John Andrews.  “Decisions were made based upon the applications, references and, mostly, the financial needs of the families.  We were pleased to be able to award over 80-thousand dollars in scholarships!”

The record amount of aid comes thanks to all-time high relayrace13donations in 2014, along with a matching program set-up by both the foundation, and camp. “The foundation was able to kick in several thousand dollars extra this year,” said Pok-O-MacCready Camp Director Brian DeGroat, “and knowing how important it is for both camp, and the scholarship applicants, we were more than happy to do the same.”

The importance of the camp experience to the recipients and their families can best be summed up by the letter of acceptance from one returning family:  Thank you so much for the scholarship; we are forever grateful for the opportunities Pok-O continues to give! We delightfully accept and will be attending for the full seven weeks.  (My daughter’s) love for Pok-O is so strong that I believe she will be in her 40’s and still be going to camp! Hopefully giving back and teaching other campers how wonderful camp life is!”

Of the 22 scholarships awarded for 2015, 15 went to new campers.
