Night of Honors

BoysBanquet312A full camp session of classes, activities, hikes and camaraderie was recognized Thursday evening at the 110th annual Pok-O-Moonshine banquet.

While the girl’s banquet, held Wednesday, placed an emphasis on beauty and emotion, the boy’s event was unique in it’s humor and originality.  In a role reversal that may have been a camp banquet first, 11-year old camper Sean T took the podium not to receive a prize, but to give out special awards to staff.  He presented his prized hat to counselor Chris Vonderlin “for sticking with me all summer long!”

As always, awards were given for years of service (patches, paddles, blankets and more) along with the Pok-O “P”:  The staff pick for most exemplary camper.  Only one camper in each section receives the highest award:  Honor Camper.  In his tenth and final season as a camper, Alec received the award for the first time. “I sort of wondered whether or not I’d ever get this, because I’ve been here so long and done a lot of things, but had never won honor camper.”

BoysBanquet314“I felt a little lightheaded,” admitted Walker, the Intermediate section Honor Camper.  “But then, I could not stop smiling.  I didn’t ever think I would win this; it’s pretty special!”

In an evening of recognition and thanks, Headmaster Josh Bornt saved his biggest appreciation for the campers.  “… and finally, thank you to you – the campers – for providing us with another wonderful summer.  If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t be here and we wouldn’t get to experience all the joy we get from you.”
