The summer’s final horse show was an intimate affair, held on a gorgeous day at Camp MacCready.

14BigMaccready10The 48th Big MacCready Horse Show featured a dozen classes, held in five divisions with all of the activity taking place in one location.  “Normally, we use the barn ring and the jump course,” said riding director Hayley Higgs, “but we were able to do everything in the ring, which allowed everyone to view from one spot.”

Six different campers won blue ribbons (see list) with the winners representing a full mix of riders, from the beginners to the experienced.  “I loved it,” raved Katherine O, who won the lead line class.  “I have ridden a bit (before) but never in a horse show.  I look forward to doing more advanced classes in the future.”

Nora W, another relatively new competitor was beyond surprised by her victory in the beginne14BigMaccready13r walk-trot class.  “I thought I was going to finish fourth.  Then they announced fourth, and third, and second, then me.  I was, like ‘Wow’!”  When asked why she thought she won, Nora said, “I’m not sure.  Maybe it was my good posture.”

Show Manager Hayley Higgs saved her highest praise for some of her longtime riders.  “Elrick was amazing,” she said of the standout male entrant, while “Nina rode the best she’s ever done.  Having taught her for so many years, I felt like a proud parent.”

Nina concurred.  “It was a very nice moment with Hayley to share how much we had progressed.  It was an amazing show!  I had a great horse, I did my best, and it was nice to show people that I knew how to canter, and how much I had improved!”
