Super Marcy #1

SMleaveEvery five years, hardcore Pok-O-MacCready hikers take a step into camp’s history, with the Super Marcy trips.

Instead of driving the 30 or so miles to the trail head, the campers and staff walk all the way from camp, over Whiteface Mountain, and on to the summit of Mount Marcy, New York’s highest point.  The total mileage exceeds 60 by the time the four day trip reaches it’s terminus.

One purpose of the Super Marcy hikes is to pay homage to the early days of Pok-O-Moonshine, in the 1910’s and 1920’s, when SMleave1campers and counselors did not have the luxury of driving to a trail head.  They simply walked from camp to Marcy… and back.

31 campers and staff are taking part in three separate Super Marcy hikes this year; the first trip, comprised of Advanced Section members, left camp at 6:47 Sunday morning.

Stay tuned for updates on all three trips. (Also see Photo of the Day)
