Camp MacCready Banquet

MacBanquet03For the first time in the 110 years of Pok-O-MacCready Camps, banquets are being held mid-summer, to honor the departing four-weekers.

Following a dinner that featured Filet of Sole stuffed with crab meat as the entree, and New York cheesecake for dinner, the awards part of the program took place.

Campers from both sessions are eligible to receive awards, and prizes and gifts were handed out in a number of areas, including camper classes.  For riding, one of the tMacBanquet01op honors is the Durango Jeans Award, given to the person with the most “hardcore attitude.”  This year’s recipient is Elsa G who, although she doesn’t even ride horses, has volunteered as a Horsemaster, to work in the barn wih the animals.  “I like getting up early and being with horses,” said Elsa, who added that, in the future, she would like to ride.

For year’s of service, campers make their way from patches and pins, to paddles and baskets.  And the highest honors, saved for the end of the evening’s program, are reserved for the MacCready M’s and Honor Campers.

“I was definitely surprised,” said Eliza, who captured both an “M” and Honor Camper for the Lodge section.  “It definitely makes you feel good, feel special.”  Said Caroline C, who also captured both awards, in Highlander section:  “I was really excited, and really honored because the people in my section are so amazing, and this means they think that I’m amazing too!”

The boy’s banquet will take place Friday evening, and additional award ceremonies will be held at the conclusion of the second session.  (See list of top girl’s award winners HERE)
