“I’m still in shock!  It feels like I’m dreaming.  It’s amazing; definitely the best experience I’ve had here at camp!”  – Leah, Tuscarora winning Sachem

The announcement of the winning tribe was the highlight of the closing council fire, held Wednesday night.

finalfire10After being called to council, members of the five tribes waited patiently through a fire starting prayer, presentations of the winning tribal project and journal, and a recap of the 2014 Indian Games events.

Finally, the ten Chiefs and Sachems gathered before the White People, hand-in-hand, to await the final tally.  WATCH A VIDEO OF THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE WINNER.

With five event wins, along with five more runner-ups, the Tuscarora finalfire03held a clear advantage over the rest of the tribes.  The Mohawk, looking for their first overall victory in 11 years, came up short again, finishing second.  “It was so close,” said Emma R.  “We’ve waited so long – I’ve been coming here for five years – and this is the closest we’ve come.  But it’s OK, and I’m happy for the Tuskies since a lot of my friends are on the tribe.”

2013 tribal champions, the Cayuga, ended up third, followed by the Seneca and the Onondaga. (see results).
