Jacob the 46er

Fields46r02Advanced Section member Jacob F completed his Adirondack 46ers climbing quest Sunday morning at the summit of 4867-foot Whiteface Mountain.  He was joined by several co-section members, along with his parents, sister and some family friends.

A veteran camper in his eighth summer at Pok-O-MacCready, Jacob climbed his first high peak, Sawteeth,  when he was eight. “I kind of always knew I’d finish at some point.  This is something I’ve always worked towards.”

Jacob’s finishing day was almost put on hold, as he missed out on Seymour, his 45th mountain, early last week.  However, camp was able to quickly put together a follow-up Seymour hike, just two days prior to Whiteface.  “It worked out prettFields46r04y well since my parent’s were up for visiting day.”

Jacob considered the best part of the day to be “getting to the top and getting that sense of completion.”  In dealing with the camp tradition of downing a jar of baby food at the top, Jacob said “The sweet potato flavor was awful, but the apple sauce was pretty good.”

Like so many camp Forty-Sixers, finishing up his round is, for Jacob, by no means an end.  “I will keep hiking.”

Jacob is the summer’s second 46er, joining Julia, who finished last week.  See list of all camp 46ers HERE
