Following round robin play, Safe Sets led the way into the playoffs with an unbeaten record.  And while a few of their preliminary matches were close, the pre-tournament favorites blasted through the playoffs to win the overall title.

“We actually practiced together as a team,” said Kate K, unveiling a strategy somewhat foreign to Pok-O-MacCready sports.  “So, we played well, but mostly, it was so much fun!”

“We are all in one volleyball class,” added Justin B, and we have been practicing the bump-set-spike really hard.”  Hannah Ba pinpointed her team’s success on “talent, and we all had such postive attitudes.”

The Pok-O Closed has become a popular event at camp because “we have a lot of kids in volleyball class, and this gives them something to shoot for,” said tournament director Josh Bornt.  “Plus it’s a chill way for players and other campers (spectators) to hang out and watch some good games.”

Only one team could walk away with the title, and the t-shirts that accompany it, but seemingly all 36 players had a great time.  “We definitely thought we had a chance,” relayed Isabel, of the runner-up squad, “but although we lost, we had fun!”  Her teammate, Max noted that “A late injury hurt us in the final,” but Luca added that, “we thought we played really well anyway.”
