Mastering the Horse Barn

StaffHorsemaster04Thursday morning at 7:00am, the entire 2014 Pok-O-MacCready staff met at the tack barn to get a jump on the day’s work.  While the starting work hour may seem a bit early to some, it was actually 15 minutes later than MacCready campers and riding staff gather each day, throughout the summer, for Horsemasters.

One of the most important programs at camp, Horsemasters may seem like hard, thankless labor.  In reality, the program teaches campers responsibility, teamwork and a connection with animals.  “Without Horsemasters, there is no riding program,” said riding director Sue Bagli.

Once the riding campers arrive, they will be in charge of feeding, grooming and mucking.  But for today only, the full staff performed the task and, in doing so, they gained a major appreciation and respect for the Horsemasters.
