A big part of the pre-camp staff orientation experience is to take part in one of Pok-O-MacCready’s oldest and most valued traditions: Wilderness trips.
On Wednesday morning, three trips returned from three different locations in the Adirondacks. A group of 2014 trip leaders practiced their leadership, camping and route finding skills on a trip up the back side of Phelps Mountain. Meantime, two overnight hikes comprised of new counselors were busy learning basic wilderness skills while climbing Hurricane and Owls Head mountains.
Last week, another trip leader hike was also run. The staff learned a lot, calling the experience valuable both in terms of preparing them to lead campers into the woods, and also to bond with one another.
