Adirondack Summer Camp: Over a century of tradition!

What comes to mind when you hear the words,
“Adirondack Summer Camp?”

Summer Camps in the Adirondacks tripsDo you think of waking up to the call of the bugle and gathering with your comrades around the cobblestone fireplace of the dining hall before enjoying a hearty breakfast, made with ingredients from the farm just down the road? Can you hear the chorus of screen doors of the rustic cabins slamming shut as kids grab their water bottles, backpacks, and bug spray before running off to class in the morning? Do you think of that sense of accomplishment after you cooked your first slab of SPAM on a camping stove, or that summer that you finished climbing all 46 tallest peaks of the Adirondack Mountains and became an Adirondack 46-er?

Do you think of hiking with your friends to a rocky outcropping to watch the sun set behind a line of majestic mountains? Do you think of campfires and s’mores, and ghost stories with the moonlight reflecting on a shimmering lake, with the solemn call of a loon providing the soundtrack to a quintessential Adirondack summer camp moment? If these are the kind of images you associate with an Adirondack summer camp, then you would be right at home at Pok-O-MacCready! These aren’t merely recollections from our last Adirondack summer camp season; this is our history. Pok-O-MacCready Camps is one of the oldest Adirondack summer camps in New York.

In 1967 our current director, Jack Swan, saw the need for an Adirondack summer camp for girls in New York and opened Camp MacCready. We are now one big family, combining our names to “Pok-O-MacCready” and operating as a traditional residential Adirondack summer camp for boys and girls ages six to sixteen.

What makes Adirondack Summer Camps Unique

Adirondack summer camps differ greatly from other summer camps in New York. Here at Pok-O-MacCready, our century-old tradition of outdoor sports is still very much alive today. We offer summer camp activities that you might not find at other summer camps in New York including: archery, horseback riding, camp craft, Native American lore, candle making, homesteading, and our “History and Mystery” trips which lead campers into the wilderness to learn about the legends of the Adirondacks.
