Florence James: 1920-2014

Plattsburgh, NY, March 22– Florence L. James, 93, died March, 22, 2014, after a long illness, at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.  She was born in Moriah, N.Y. August 15, 1920 the daughter of Nelson and Florence (Broughton) Sharrow.

floFlorence was a cook and kitchen assistant at Camp Pok-O-MacCready from the 1960’s, until her retirement in 1994. She has a camp boat named in her honor.

She was the widow of Harold James who died in 1987. She is survived by four sons and their wives, 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Florence was predeceased by brothers, Charles, Lloyd, Leon, and Harry Sharrow; and one sister, Ruth DaBoin; one grandson, former Pok-O head chef Steve James, in Jan. 2014.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 pm Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Huestis Funeral Home, 25 Maple St., Willsboro, NY. A Funeral Service will be held at 4 p.m. at the Funeral Home. A reception will follow at the United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall. Burial will be in the New Bert Cemetery at a date and time to be announced later.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations in her memory be made to the Adirondack Scholarship Foundation.
