46er #360

Senior camper James D had a big day Thursday.  Not only did he finish his Adirondack 46ers, but he received the award for most wilderness trip points; a bugler citation, and several other honors at the evening’s banquet.

At 11:46am, James reached the summit of Cascade Mountain to complete his quest to become an Adirondack Forty-Sixer.  Joining him on the climb were a group of friends, along with his parents.  In fact, earlier this year on a camp hike, James stopped just short of the summit of the easily accessible Cascade, in order to save it for his final peak.  “I wanted my Mother and Father to be able to come.  I was psyched they climbed, but they were pretty tired, even though they liked it.”

The celebratory summit feast included two apple pies, Twizzlers, Swedish Fish and, of course, baby food.  “I was banana flavored.  I was a bit shocked at first, but it was OK.”

As for the best part of the day, James said “getting to the top and finishing.  I looked out and saw everything; all the mountains I had hiked.  It was awesome!”

James becomes the final camper to complete the 46 during the 2013 summer season, and the 360th in the history of camp. See list of all camp Forty-Sixers.
