The Big MacCready

Pok-O-MacCready’s preeminent horse show of the summer camp season – The Big MacCready – was staged Sunday morning at the MacCready jump course and barn ring.

Festivities kicked off with the introductory Lead Line class, and for the first time in recent memory, the field of riders had more boys than girls.  For Christopher, the class was an adventure:  “I was on one horse, and when I asked it to walk, it would trot.  And when I would ask it to trot, it would canter.  So, I got a little nervous and ended up switching horses. That was much better!”  The lead line class was won by Sophie M.  “It was exciting, and felt good.  The key was to relax and smile!”

13bigmac16Like Christopher, Benjamin was riding in his first show ever.  “I road and got fifth place, which is better than sixth! It was really fun.”

Claire B won a blue ribbon in the walk-trot division.  When asked if her success was attributed more to her or the horse, Claire said “it was the horse (Paris) because I was the one who groomed her and she looked fabulous!  I was very happy I got to ride her; she’s my favorite Pok-O horse.”

Remi W. captured champion honors in two divisions, while Sierra and Morgan also won champion ribbons.  “I felt like I was riding well,” said Morgan, “but Mumford (horse) was being a little awkward, and distracted by other horses.  It went well, though!”

In the hunter-jumper division, Sarah-Judith was recognized for being patient and persistent on a horse that had little interest in taking the fences.  For S-J, it was her last MacCready horse show, after many years, as was the case for Sarah A, who won five blue ribbons in her farewell camp performance.  “It was my last show, and it’s my last week as a camper, but I don’t really like to say  “last’ anything! It (leaving camp) hasn’t hit me yet.  But it was a fun show, and I was happy with how I did!”
