Riding for Ribbons, and fun

13MacShow118

In one of the more efficient, speedy and successful horse shows in recent memory, the MacCready Show took place 13MacShow110Sunday morning amidst perfect weather conditions.

The Mac Show #1, the first of two hosted by Pok-O-MacCready Camps, featured classes ranging from lead line to hunter-jumpers, with both campers, and some area competitors taking part.  “The kids were incredible,” said head judge, Ms. Leah Greenman.  “The classes were designed to really have the flexibility to bring out the rider’s abilities and make them shine.  Also, I was impressed by several13MacShow109 of camp’s horses.”

Blue ribbons were awarded in every class, with champion and reserve ribbons given out to the division winners (see full list of results HERE).  Sierra put in an impressive display, sweeping all three of her cross-rails, low jumping classes.  “It was awesome with just two of us in the class.  Sarah-Judith did a great job, I think I did a great job, and both of us have improved so much over the years (at camp)!”

Sarah-Judith, who won the reserve ribbon in the division, confidently added “this was the second horse show in a row with no falls.  I think we’re going for a record!”  13MacShow107

On the hunter course, Hannah and Sarah put in a spirited jumping dual.  “My horse, Cash, went a bit fast at times,” said Hannah.  “We wish there could have been more riders in the class, but it was fun.”

Riding program director Sue Bagli also pointed out the efforts of Remi, who “rode a problematic pony, but she rode him well, and with a smile on her face (photo, right)”.  And Piper for “doing a fantastic job being the first rider on our new horse.  So new, it doesn’t even have a name yet!”  As for the name, Sarah-Judith suggests that “We called it ‘mare’ but there’s talk about naming her ‘Pocohantis’, or ‘Poco’ for short.”

The show concludes the competitive riding schedule for session #1, but the seven-weekers and session #2 campers will have a couple of more opportunities to ride in shows, including the 47th Big MacCready, scheduled for August 11.
