A fundamental mission 13CITfarm05of Pok-O-MacCready’s C.I.T. and Advanced Section programs is to perform work projects and community service.

On Wednesday, the girl’s 15 and 16-year old campers spent the morning at Fledging Farm in nearby Keeseville, NY.  For campers such as Isabel A., this was as much fun, as it was work.  “I loved it!  The people were interesting and I like farming and working with food.”

The campers assisted with weeding, as well as the washing, bundling and grouping of carrots.  “Pulling weeds is actually kind of therapeutic,” voiced Erin G., “because you’re really focusing on it.”

“We learned a lot, said Sarah R (who did not pick radishes).  “Like, we learned that grass ‘cries’ when it’s cut because it’s releasing chemicals.”

Throughout the summer, the oldest boys and girls sections also assist with trail maintenance, moving and cleaning chores in and around camp, and other community involvement.
