Unpredictable Wind

13LincSail04The first of several camp sailing regattas was held yesterday under warm, windy conditions.

The Pok-O-MacCready coed team took on North Country Camps at Auger Lake, competing on unknown waters, with unfamiliar boats.  “We really didn’t know the course,” said Hannah B., “but the lake was pretty.”

The event was staged in three heats, with an accent on sport, more than competition.  “In the past years, we really haven’t kept an overall score,” said Pok-O-MacCready boating director Kelly Zimmerman.  “We run heats and have a good social time.  However, since both our kids, and their kids were really good, there was some competitive racing.”

“We were not so serious,” said Isabel.  “We were more like the fun boat!  Plus, the wind kept changing.”  Added Elizabeth, who sailed with Alec:  “It was fun sailing on their lake.  They were good hosts and we were good sports.”

One of the three heats was one by a Pok-O boat, with sailors Kate K and Harrison aboard.  “Harrison and I did well, winning one and finishing fourth in the other,” said Kate, with her partner adding, “We won the race by two buoys.  It was really fun, and we had fun going off of the diving board after.”

At least two races on Log Pond are scheduled for later this summer, with the possibility of a regatta on Lake Champlain as well.
