A Gothic Celebration

Senior Camper Chad C, who has been to camp since he was two days old, climbed his first Adirondack 46er at the age of six, but “I knew two years ago that I wanted to finish.  I just really got into hiking then.”

Chad’s quest to finish came to a successful conclusion Monday on top of scenic Gothics Mountain, as he finished his 46.  He becomes the 355th camp Forty-Sixer.  Very much keeping it in the family, both of Chad’s parents, who were along for the hike, are 46ers, as are several other cousins.  Chad’s great-uncle, Phil, became Pok-O-MacCready’s first camper 46er, in 1962.

On top, the hiker of honor was rewarded with watermelon, spaghetti, fried chicken and, of course, baby food.  “It was chicken and rice and it was OK, I guess.”  As for the best part of the day, Chad said, “Getting to the top and seeing my friends and family, and how happy they were!”

The hiking party returned to camp during Monday night’s talent show, where Chad was met with a huge standing ovation, as you can see in the photo gallery below.
