Competition Begins

While Indian Days is still several weeks away, and tribes have not yet even elected their leaders, the first event is already on the books, and the race for the 2013 Indian Games championship is under. way.

The opening event, the Boy’s Great Indian Track Meet was held Wednesday, under warm sunny conditions, at the MacCready ball field.  Here’s a look at the diverse lineup of events (click on any thumbnail):

In addition, each tribe was required to perform a cheer.  The opening event was one by the Cayuga, and braves from all five Iroquois Nations had a great time.  “It was pretty fun, said Nick, of the Seneca..  “We had fun, and all the tribal “songs” were awesome.”

William (Cayuga) felt that “all the games were fun.  My favorite was the backwards race,” and first year Seneca Tor clearly has a passion for food, saying, “I liked the cracker race, and the egg race.”
