It is generally the custom to award Pok-O-MacCready’s highest honor- the naming of boats- to retired alumni. That tradition was ignored this year as two longtime campers and staff members were awarded boats in their name at the annual summer staff banquet held Sunday, August 13. “We’re getting to the point where a new generation of the camp family should be honored,” said camp Director Sharp Swan. “Even though ‘Squeaky’ and ‘Skip’ are still here, they’ve been here for close to a combined 80 Ken Herz first came to camp in 1969 and has been a camper, counselor, section head (for 12 years) and, most recently, assistant headmaster. Tim Singer arrived in 1967 and accordingly has been a camper, counselor, section head, assistant headmaster, orientation leader and program director. He developed and continues to maintain the Pok-O-MacCready summer camp web site. |

STAFF MEMBERS COMPLETE THE 46 The final week of the 2006 summer camp season saw five campers complete their Adirondack Forty-Sixers. After the campers went home, it was the counselors turn to take center stage. On Saturday, August 12, former camper and first year staffer Owen Roberts finished up on Rocky Peak. Two days later, a large group of colleagues joined Senior section head Josh Bornt to the top of Wright for his 46th. And the following day, camp’s Financial Director, Fiona Dubuss (right) finished up on Marshall. All told, Pok-O-MacCready added ten new 46ers in 2006 (so far) and now has 287 known Adirondack Forty-Sixers. |
