Pok-O-MacCready Camps Visitors’ Policy

Welcome back to Camp!!!

Over the past couple of years, there has been a marked increase in interest among former campers and staff of Pok-O-MacCready returning to see and hang out with old friends and co-workers.  This is a great thing, and we encourage everyone to come back to “the greatest Camp in the universe” to visit, lend a hand and to recharge their Pok-O Spirit!

That being said, we must keep in mind, first and foremost, the safety, health and happiness of our current campers and staff.   In order to keep Camp running smoothly, while at the same time encourage alumni and past staff members to come back and see us, we’ve created this Camp Visitors’ Policy that will, hopefully, help all of us to plan, work together and GET together, in a more organized and productive manner.  The following are rules we expect you to comply with when planning a visit to Camp at any time during the year:

1.       If you wish to come and stay overnight at Camp, you must contact Director Sharp Swan or the office at least two weeks in advance and have express written or verbal consent regarding your visit, including the dates, length of stay and where you will be living while at Camp.  The office will then pass this information on to the Headmasters of each camp.

2.        When you arrive at Camp, you must check in to the office first to fill out a release form and to learn if there are any pertinent Camp issues...water bans, Health Department inspections, etc…to consider.

3.      Anyone wishing to stay at Camp must be 18 years of age or older.  No AC-age visitors will be allowed to come and stay at Camp without parental supervision.

4.      Participation in any activities must be consistent with the camp regulations and schedule. This includes a 1:00 a.m. curfew and a 1:30 a.m. in your own bed.  Swimming is only allowed during regularly scheduled general swims.  If you are unfamiliar with any of the rules please speak to the Director.  You must make every effort to inform yourself and abide by all of the rules.

5.       Any visitor staying at Camp for only a single night is welcome to enjoy their stay without being asked to lend a hand.

6.       If you plan on staying more than one night, you are expected to work at least eight hours a day.  You may choose between the following:   a) Work Projects (Squeak and Sharp in charge), b) Class/ Section coverage (Josh, Missy or Erin in charge), or c) Trip coverage (Kenny in charge).

                                                                                                                                      (please turn over)

7.       If you wish to play or take part in any “Big Game”, you must have permission from the office first, and then get your assignment from the “Big Game” specialist.

8.       Anyone not following the above guidelines may be asked to terminate their visit to Camp.

9.       Volunteers are covered under Camp’s general liability policy during working hours.

10.  Any change or exceptions to this policy can only be made by the Camp Director, Sharp Swan.

Winter Visitors’ Policy

From September until June, Camp is under the auspices of the Pok-O-MacCready Outdoor Education Center.   The Outdoor Education staff residences are off limits to the summer staff and alumni unless permission is granted by one of the residents.   The above guidelines will be followed during Outdoor Ed’s season, and anyone wishing to visit Camp should contact Stites McDaniel, the Outdoor Education Center’s Director at (518) 963-7967or email to director@pmoec.org.

Many thanks for your cooperation, enjoy your stay, and “Welcome Back to Camp!”
