Togetherness Abounds

The entire camp family gathers twice in two nights

Opening Council Fire

The camp gathered solemnly at the Council Fire.

WILLSBORO, NY -- The 100th Annual Great Indian Games began officially on Wednesday evening as tribes of the Iroquois Nation gathered at the 2004 Opening Council Fire.

Braves and princesses gathered in their tribes silently in the Pok-O sandpit as the new braves and princesses lined up in all white, wondering exactly what all the excitement was about.

That excitement becamse clear right away with the beat of the drum and the call to council.

The mighty chief - speaking in native toungue - welcomed all to the sacred fire and warned braves and princesses of the rigorous struggle that lie ahead.

The White People spoke of the importance teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership while outlining the schedule for the Great Indian Games.

Finally, all new braves and princesses were placed on tribes, becoming part of a powerful and passionate tradition, which is the Indian Games.

First Moonshiner

The Gentlemen of the Senior Boys Section: “Near, far, wherever you are...I believe that my heart will go on...!”.

WILLSBORO, NY -- The entire camp family gathered for the second straight evening on Thursday for the 100th Annual First Moonshiner of the Summer.

A “Moonshiner” is Pok-O-MacCready’s version of a skit night, with a dash of Pok-O-MacCready Spirit.

Many diverse acts were performed by campers and staff alike, entertaining the throngs with music, laughs, and a bit of camp lore thrown in.

The show was stolen by the Senior Boys, who performed en masse a rousing rendition of Celine Dion’s smash hit from Titanic.

As always, the evening was concluded with the arm-in-arm singing of the camp song.  The Lyrics follow:

There’s a camp called Pok-O-MacCready
and it’s a camp we all love;
where the sun is always shining in the skies above!
There is swimming, fishing, hiking,
and it is all like a dream;
but the thing we like the best of all
is James’s ICE CREAM!

Coming up in the next few days:  Cadyville Race results, Trip Reports from the first round of day hikes, the Mini MacCready Horse Show, the Revolutionary War Game, and the Great Indian Track Meet.
