SO MUCH TO DO

Campers jump right into getting their summer started.

actfairpot     There is fishing and swimming and hiking... and a whole lot more. The 105th annual activity fair yesterday showcased over twenty different activities offered here at camp. Campers toured around stopping at different stations to meet with the counselors and hear a little bit more about each activity.actfairarch

“I thought it was really cool how they let us know about everything,” first year camper Kyler Fullerton remarked. Dafna Bridgewater commented, “I’m really excited about pottery this summer, because my grandma does it and I like it.” When asked what activity she was excited for Nicole Dodillet exclaimed, “Hiking 46ers! I don’t have any yet, because I usually concentrate on sailing so this summer I’m getting off the water and into the mountains!”

With such a myriad of activities it can be difficult to choose and campers must list several activities that they are interested in doing. After “the computer” has compiled the data, campers are given their official schedule and off they go. Both boys and girls will get right to it tomorrow when the first full day of classes begins.

“GETTING TO KNOW YOU”

Everyone knows that it’s important to get along when you are living in a cabin with many different people. Thank goodness for section activities! It’s a great way for campers to get to know the people in their cabin and the other people who live in their section. Last evening both Camp Pok-O and MacCready took some time to hang as a section and get to know each other better. Some groups played SPUD, Blackline, Drip, Drip, Drop while others did quieter more chill “get to know you” activities.

“Pioneer Potpourri” was one event of the evening and Pioneer campers got a chance to mix it up with a few different games. Rseturning camper Stuart Hutzler revealed his favorite part of the evening, “I liked the chasing part when we played ‘Running Bases,’ even though I was the first to get out.”

On the more low key side of things was the mailbox making activity that the Lodge girls worked on. Each girl made their own mailbox for when their letters from home start to arrive. “My inspiration for this mailbox came from the holes in the box. I thought it looked like Swiss cheese and that is why I painted it yellow,” explained new camper, Amelia Whiteley. The fun is sure to continue with many more activities and adventures planned to bring each section closer together this summer.

“IT’S GREAT TO BE BACK”

After one full day at camp, a returning camper also reflects on being back at camp...

It’s great to be back at camp. When you see your friends get off the bus you have a feeling of being at home with your family. You forget that you had to say goodbye to your parents that morning. Running up to your friends to give them a huge hug you begin to think about all the great memories from the summers before, and of all the great times you’re going to have this summer. In the cabin you talk with everyone, new or old, the noise and laughter never stops. Camp is heaven only more fun.
