While riders welcomed outside competition, volleyball players did not. The fourth annual Pok-O Closed took place recently and six teams competed against one another. Creator of The Pok-O Closed, Josh Bornt, felt that the day went well saying, “We had gorgeous weather and lots of energy. The kids were psyched.”
All the teams who competed came up with creative names and came out on a beautiful sunny day to show off their skills. The “Scholastics” had a successful run for most of the tournament with a 5-0 score until the reached the finals and gave the game away losing 22-20. “Mike’s Soup” early on were not doing well and it looked as though they would be finished before they had started. The team managed to pull it together and secure a place in the finals. Senior camper, Arthur, credited the team’s success to their ability “to have more fun.”
“We were actually a last minute team and we also only had five players, because one of our members was on a hike,” explained ADV camper, Gabe. “Mike’s Soup” eventually met their match when they faced off with “Foreign Legion” in the final round. “Foreign Legion” had been dominating early on and played incredibly well. Team member, Marc, spoke simply about the team’s success, “We made seven matches and won seven matches.” The game was close until “Foreign Legion” began to get ahead on serves, eventually securing them the win. Coming in second place turned out to still be a victory for “Mike’s Soup,” as team member Leah, recalled, “We did surprisingly well and we were really happy with ourselves.”
