KEEPING THINGS INTERESTING

Campers discover that there are many different ways to stay occupied at camp.

legotroutrach    According to the song, Pok-O-MacCready is where “the sun is always shining in the skies above,” nevertheless, camp has seen a little rain this summer in between those days of sunshine. However, thelegonicole rain has done nothing to stop the fun that is constantly going on here at camp. Counselors have been thinking outside the box, and presenting campers with unique activities to keep things interesting.

Senior girls got together last night and enjoyed a cozy evening in the dining hall which included warm apple pie, a fire and a Lego competition. The girls really liked picking through the legos to find the exact pieces they needed to construct houses, cars and even barns. Imaginations ran wild as they worked to build a winning creation.

Nicole described what she was working on saying, “I made a model of the Sugar Cube barn here at camp. I even included the horses and all of their stalls.” Hannah was very proud of her space dune buggy that was for “the planet Popolopolis.” Erin shared her vision by explaining, “I made Shai putting out a fire with his little fire truck.”

The seniors enjoyed building and were sad when they had to stop so that their creations could be judged. The decision was a hard one to make, and the girls anxiously waited for the judges to reach their decision. Nicole’s Lego Sugar Cube barn was declared the winner much to her delight. Nicole was so excited that she jumped up screaming and ran out of the dining hall in a winner’s frenzy. The night was brought to an end with the girls conducting a demolition of their creations before marching their little imaginative selves to bed.

“BELAY ON!”: ROCK TOWER IS NOW FULLY OPERATIONAL

rocktiein    It was “Opening Day” for the indoor rock climbing tower as the first, official classes took place yesterday. Students tied in to different climbs and tried out the challenging routes. ADV camper, Abrahim had, “a chance to climb the first route that was set. It was a lot harder before the new holds were added.”

Intermediate camper, Isabel, shared that she was, “really excited to be climbing in the tower now. I have been waiting to get a chance to come up here and now we can use the tower which is so cool.” CIT, Miri, echoed, “it’s great to be able to climb and not worry about the weather. It’s fun to try all the new climbs that are up.”

While at the tower campers are working on learning more that just different climbing techniques. Returning camper, Josh explained, “we get the chance to learn how to belay, how to use the equipment properly and the safety that goes into managing a climbing site.” No matter whether they are on the wall or supporting their classmates, these campers are now able to climb high in the new tower.
