Girls’ return completes a successful duo of “Super Marcy” hikes

Quotes from the Campers

Pok-O-MacCready camp is seeped in a long history of special traditions that make this camp unlike any other. One of these events is the Super WithSheetMarcy Hike. Every five years campers depart from camp to hike over 60 miles to the highest peak in New York State- Mount Marcy. This trip may seem too intense for campers, but boys and girls alike rose to the challenge this week and had a ton of fun while doing it. Senior camper Matt E.,

For both MacCready and Pok-O-Moonshine campers the first day of the hike seemed to pose the greatest challenge. Andrew G., a 13 year old camper and avid hiker said, “The first days was pretty hard, then it got a bit easier until going up Marcy- but fun all of the way.” MacCready camper Katherine M. said, “The first day was hardest mentally, the second day was the hardest physicsuperWhitefaceally, and the third night was a lot of fun.” Doug F., from senior section stated, “It was a breeze after the first day. The diner and the boat ride were definitely highlights.” The boat ride across Lake Placid was clearly a highlight for the girls as well. CIT Natalie W. excitedly said, “The boat ride was my favorite part. We went really fast in the middle!”

Bonding with fellow hikers was also a highlight of the trip for many of the campers. Kelsey V. put it nicely by saying, “ Some extreme bonding went on. There were so many inside jokes.” Anne W. said, “ It was hysterical, it was a blast.  We really bonded- I feel like we are really close now.”  Annie added, jokingly, “ I felt like giving upTurtle at mile 24; I felt like a grandma, but it was worth it.Gabe O. explained, the trip wouldn’t be doable without the helpful support and spirits of all the fellow hikers.”  Nick E., another fellow ADV camper and said, “After having done Super Marcy twice, I was pleased with the encouragement and strength of our group. We certainly lucked out with the weather too.” Nick is the first camper to successfully complete two Super Marcy hikes.

Advanced section member Sean H.: “Crazy Awesome! Ton of fun, it seemed harder at first before I Committed myself.” CIT camper Laura P. added, “Whiteface was hard, but it was the most fun event at camp, and I liked walking though Lake Placid looking tough.” When asked for his opinion of the trip, Sam S. responded “It was super, it seemed long, but everyone was mad at me for farting constantly.”

Advanced Section Head and the boys’ trip leader Caleb B. said, “The ADV guys were awesome and I expected them to be awesome. I was truly impressed by the seniors as well.”

Beautiful weather, amazing hikers, and great trip leaders helped ensure that yet again the tradition of the Super Marcy was upheld.

WELCOME PARENTS!

Parents, grandparents, other family and friends were welcomed to Pok-O-MacCready Saturday for the annual Session #2 visiting day.  Guests had the chance to tour camp and view their children in the morning class and activity periods.  During the afternoon, some families stuck around for some boating and swimming on a glorious afternoon, while others headed to nearby towns for a bit of shopping and eating.

“All We Are Saying, is Give Pizza a Chance!”

Shortly after the campers return from Visiting day, campers gathered for the annual Pok-O Palooza, a celebration of love, peace, brotherhood and a lot of pizza-- with many different toppings.

The campers were treated to booths including:  Fortune telling; wedding chapel; bracelet making; a ropes course; face painting; hair wraps; live music and a general psychedelic groove.
