New York, NY, June 29-- Senior boy’s camper Diego Bacci just couldn’t wait to get back to camp. And so, at 6:15 this morning, Bacci (left) was the first camper to arrive at the bus meeting spot in Manhattan. Soon, he was joined by countless others; another group was picked up in Westchester County, while dozens of other campers arrived at Pok-O-MacCready by car.
And like Diego, they couldn’t wait to get back.
“The beauty of the lake, and seeing all the people- new and returning,” was how 6th year camper Gabe Orozco described his return. Fifth year camper Justin Jacobs exclaimed, “I was getting excited as we came down the camp road!”
Nine-year old Samantha Jesner arrives at camp for the first time. Her initial impressions? “So far, every thing’s been good”
As usual, there is no shortage of second and third generation campers. Hannah Bagley of South Carolina was dropped off by her mother Susan, a former MacCready camper, counselor and riding director. Mother was obviously excited to be back, and daughter was eager as well: “I’m not scared or nervous, just excited!”
Another Alunus is Chris Kroese, a former camper back at Pok-O for the first time in 37 years, to drop off his son, Chris Jr., a first-time camper. “It was so exciting pulling in to camp,” said Kroese. “Things look exactly the same; maybe a bit smaller.”
It was yet another long-time camper who best summed up the return to Pok-O-MacCready. Coleen Dunn, 16, is back for her fifth, and final year as a camper. “It’s amazing and also surreal to be back because this is my second home!”
