The 42nd annual Camp MacCready Great Indian Swim and Boat Carnival was staged under a blue sky Saturday afternoon on Long Pond. Younger and older campers were divided, alternating between the swim dock and the boating docks. As is the case in virtually all Indian games, the events and contests were laced with challenging and sometimes comical twists that required the participants to showcase athleticism, teamwork and creativity.
“The events were interesting,” stated Seneca Annaliese Yostpille. “I liked the playak relay the best.” Among the other events were the crazy dive competition; surf board paddle; noodle swim and “Sink the Bismark”. Another Seneca, Sonja Wojcik said, “The water was warmer than usual. The boating was tough; it got windy and the boats started to turn around. It was a challenge.” Unfortunately for Wojcik and her tribe mates, it was too tough a challenge-- they ended up in fifth place. Victory went to the Onondaga, 2007 Indian Games CO-champions. “It was fun,” said ‘Daga Kate Moore. “The best part was when I was doing the doggie paddle and had to find the black feather in the crib.”
The next scheduled event on the Iroquois calendar is the tribal elections and initiations, scheduled for July 10. (See updated Indian Games results HERE)
