The hatchet h as been unburied; the battle has begun. The 2008 Indian Games kicked off Thursday, as always with the boys Great Indian Track Meet. The usual array of diverse events- some silly, some athletic- faced the new and returning tribal members. Among them: The spoon and egg race... The cracker, whistle and pie slam.... The Keeseville Fire Brigade.... Wheelbarrow and dragon race, and much more. “The best event,” said Onondaga Diego Bracci, “was the spoon and egg.”
“It was the bomb”, raved Tyler Trubish, adding that he enjoyed the tribal cheer. A steady rain turned into a downpour prior to the sky clearing for the latter events. “With the rain we really had to rely on teamwork this year,” said Will Shannon of the Cayuga. His tribe ended up in a three-way tie for second place in the meet. The winning tribe was the Seneca.
Indian games continue Saturday with the girl’s swim and boat carnival.
