WELCOME TO THE TRIBAL COUNCIL

LineOfCITs

Great Indian Council Ring, July 2-- Dressed in plain white, the brand new braves and princess entered the opening council, filled with uncertainty and FireStartsanxiety. What tribe would they be assigned to?

The five tribes of the Iroquois nation- The Cayuga, Mohawk, Onondaga, Seneca and Tuscarora preceeded them into the council ring. The fire was lit and stories were told by the great Native American Chief and Sachem. Stories about Iroquois history and tradition; the need to survive.

The invited “White People” outlined this summer’s Indian Games schedule and echoed the natives sentiment oNewSenecaf working together as a tribe “with your new brethren.” The, the new campers were welcomed into their tribes. Each new brave and princess was greeted by a handshake from the youngest returning tribal member.    “It was fun and exciting,” stated brand new Mohawk Nicky Tarala. “It was awesome,” reflected returning brave Alex Beer. The clothing was very realistic.” Seneca brave Matthew Shayne said “It was good. The best part was finding out who was on your tribe.”

The mixed emotions of the evening were best summed up by Miri Vaselli. “Very intense. Everyone was yelling ‘SILENCE’, and you tried hard not to laugh.”

INDIAN GAMES begins Thursday with the boy’s Great Indian Track Meet. CLICK HERE to see the 2008 Iroquois tribal assignments.
