FAREWELL FOUR-WEEKERS

“when you’re not with us, we’re blue... so blue”

SESSION ONE ENDS AND FRIENDS ARE SEPARATED

boysarminarm The dreary morning weather seemed to fit the mood of the crowd that gathered on MacCready field Saturday morning to say farewell to their friends. It was the traditional emotionally charged scene as campers exchanged hugs, heididorothy E-mail addresses and phone numbers in order to stay in touch throughout the coming year.

For some campers this four week departure is harder this year than ever before. Veteran camper Dorothy Farrell who is usually all smiles had eyes full of tears as she commented, “this year is much more emotionally loaded, because I don’t know if I will be able to return next year.” Many first year campers were also surprised by how fast the four week session flew by. First year Lodge camper Maddie Murphy exclaimed, “just when you start to get settled in, it’s time to leave.”

Many campers wait all year long to be reunited with the friends that they have made at camp. MacCready camper Heidi Taggart explained, “these are my best friends and it is so difficult to leave them. I only see them for one month out of the entire year.”

SUN, SAND, AND SEVEN-WEEKERS

After bidding their friends farewell, all remaining seven week campers began to prepare themselves for a day of fun in the sun. Beach day is eagerlykatcastle anticipated by campers and counselors alike, because for most it is a chance to relax. Many campers also remarked that Beach Day was “refreshing” for various reasons.

Nate Blum remarked that “the water was perfect, not too hot, not too cold,” while Travis Fisher felt, “coming to the beach is refreshing because it’s a chill day.” jacobtravisTen campers joined their friends on the beach after competing in the Adirondack Mountain Horse Show at Willow Hill. Nicole Jarck one of the riders commented that a swim in the water “felt really great after a day at the horse show.”

Vespers (a time for campers and counselors to reflect on the week’s events) was held on the beach after dinner. Many campers felt it was a nice change of scenery for the weekly meeting and made the event even more special. When asked how she felt about the beach trip, CIT camper Abby Davis said “it’s a nice transition into the last three weeks of camp.”
